When you compare yourself with others

“Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.” (1 Cor. 10:12 ESV)

Count your own blessings

Comparing yourself with others is a fast way to get trapped by the sin of envy! God has a specific plan for each of us. You won’t accomplish God’s specific plan for you by looking at others.

Count others more significant than yourself

“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Phil. 2:3 ESV)

Seek God’s approval and be a servant of Christ

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Gal. 1:10 ESV)

Therefore

“Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, 5 for each one should carry their own load..” (Gal. 6:4-5 NIV)

“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” (Rom. 12:3 ESV)
