Angels are at work

“Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 18:10)

Do we have guardian angels?

In the above passage, while speaking about children, Jesus said, “Their angels,” which suggests that children have angels assigned to them. Does this mean angels are assigned to them during all their lives or only while they are children? We don’t know because He didn’t say so. There is a passage in Hebrews 1:14 that reveals that the purpose of angels is to minister and to serve us as they are directed to do so by God (i.e., on our behalf). “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”

The Bible has a lot to say about angels

The Bible mentions the word “angel” 273 times and only gives the names of three of them: Gabriel (Daniel 8:16), Michael the archangel (Daniel 10:13), and Lucifer, the fallen angel (Isaiah 14:12). There are a massive number of angels; although the exact number is not specified in the Bible, it says that there are “myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands" of them, all to do what God directs them to do.

“Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word!” (Psalm 103:20 ESV)

Angels are fellow servants not to be worshipped

“Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (Rev. 19:10 ESV)

“Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind…” (Col. 2:18 ESV)

Angels praise God

“Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts!” (Psalm 148:2 ESV)

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’” (Luke 2:13-14 ESV)

Angels are sent from God to guard, guide, and help

“Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.” (Exo. 23:20 ESV)

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” (Psalm 91:11 ESV)

“Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place.” (Acts 8:26 ESV)

“My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.” (Dan. 6:22 ESV)

“But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said…” (Acts 5:19 ESV)

God’s powerful angels are usually unseen

“Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:19 ESV)

Angels may appear in dreams

“But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” (Matt. 1:29 ESV)

Angels are mighty and powerful

“And that night the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.” (1 Kings 19:35 ESV)

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear God

“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.” (Psalm 34:7 ESV)

Therefore

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Heb. 13:2 ESV)

“What a loving God we serve! Not only has He prepared a heavenly dwelling for us, but His angels also accompany us as we transition from this world to the next.” – Dr. David Jeremiah

“As created beings, angels are not to be worshipped, glorified, or adored in and of themselves. The angels were created to worship, glorify, adore, and obey God.” – Tony Evans
