When You Need The Power to Get Wealth

“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” (Deuteronomy 8:18 ESV)

This passage reminds us that God is the One who “gives you power to get wealth.” He is the source of every ability, opportunity, and blessing we possess. It also explains why He gives this ability: “that he may confirm his covenant.” Under the New Covenant, established through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God blesses His people so they can glorify Him, provide for their families, meet the needs of others, and advance His kingdom. Wealth is not merely for personal comfort—it is a tool entrusted to us for God’s purposes.

Seek God First

The foundation for true prosperity always begins with God. When you seek Him first instead of chasing wealth, He promises to provide what you truly need.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 ESV)

Be Cautious!

The Bible never says that money is evil. Rather, it warns that the love of money is dangerous. When wealth becomes our master instead of our servant, it can lead us away from God. Never pursue riches at the expense of your relationship with Christ.

“But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:9-10 NKJV)

Honor the Lord

Everything we have belongs to God. Honor Him by putting Him first with your finances and acknowledging Him as the true source of every blessing.

“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.” (Prov. 3:9-10 ESV)

Be Faithful

God often entrusts greater responsibility to those who are faithful with what they already have. Faithfulness in little things prepares us for greater things.

“Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you?” (Luke 16:11)

Tithe Fully

The only place in Scripture where God invites His people to “test” Him is in the matter of faithful giving. He promises to bless those who honor Him with obedient hearts.

“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” (Mal. 3:10 ESV)

Give Generously

God’s blessings are never intended to stop with us. As we give generously, we become channels through which God blesses others.

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38 ESV)

Therefore

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

 “As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.” (1 Tim. 6:17-19 ESV)
