When in Trouble, There’s Help

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 NIV)

Remember the “God Is” Promises

When trouble comes, our first reaction is often fear, worry, or trying to solve everything on our own. Yet Psalm 46:1 reminds us to focus on who God is rather than on the size of our problem. This single verse gives us four powerful promises to remember in every trial.

1. God is our refuge.
A refuge is a place of safety, shelter, and protection from danger. When life becomes overwhelming, God invites us to run to Him, not away from Him. (Psalm 91:2)

2. God is our strength.
God doesn’t merely tell us to be strong—He supplies the strength we need. When our own strength runs out, His strength is more than sufficient. (Philippians 4:13)

3. God is ever-present.
No matter where you are or what you face, God has not abandoned you. His presence goes with you through every valley, every storm, and every uncertainty. (Joshua 1:9)

4. God is our help.
God is never too busy or too distant to help His children. He promises to strengthen, uphold, and sustain those who trust in Him. (Isaiah 41:10)

Therefore

Keep your eyes on the eternal rather than the temporary. Today’s troubles will not last forever, but God’s promises will. As you trust Him, He will be your refuge, your strength, your constant companion, and your faithful helper.
