When you believe

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” (John 14:1 ESV)

A Different Kind of “Believe”

In the passage above, Jesus tells us to “believe also in me.” This kind of believing is much deeper than merely acknowledging that something exists. For example, a person may believe that the President of the United States exists or even believe that God exists. Yet the Bible says that even demons believe in God—and they are not saved (James 2:19).

The kind of belief Jesus is talking about is a wholehearted trust in Him that results in surrender. It is believing from the heart that He is the Son of God who died for our sins and rose again, accompanied by openly confessing Him as Lord.

Believing and Confessing

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Rom. 10:9-10 ESV)

Saving faith is more than intellectual agreement—it is personal trust in Jesus Christ. Genuine faith changes the heart and naturally expresses itself through confession and obedience.

Whoever Believes in Jesus Will Be Saved

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:16-18 ESV)

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12 ESV)

God’s invitation is extended to everyone. No one is excluded because of their past. Anyone who turns to Jesus in faith and receives Him as Savior becomes a child of God and receives the gift of eternal life.

Therefore

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12 ESV)

“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.’” (Mark 16:15-16 ESV)

Believing in Jesus is not merely the doorway to eternal life—it is also the beginning of a life of faithful service. Those who truly believe are called to follow Him, share the gospel, and allow Him to work through them for His glory.
