When discord and strife are sown

“I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.” (Rom. 16:17 ESV)

God hates the sowing of discord

Among the things God hates is “one who sows discord among brothers.” (Prov. 6:16-19 ESV)

Division is a work of the flesh

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: … enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy…” (Gal. 5:19-21 ESV)

“As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him…” (Titus 3:10 ESV)

Therefore

Instead of creating strife, God calls us to make peace.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matt. 5:9 ESV)
