Don’t give the devil a foothold
IMG_0395.JPG

“... do not give the devil a foothold...” (Eph. 4:27)

Protect your heart

Satan comes “immediately” to take away  the word that was sown in your heart. So, protect it!

“And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.” (Mark 4:15 KJV)

Do not conform to the enemy’s pattern!

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Rom. 12:2 NIV)

Take up the shield of faith

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” (Eph. 6:16 NIV)

Diligently keep your heart!

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” (Prov. 4:23 KJV)

Overcome evil with good
IMG_0394.JPG

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Rom. 12:21 ESV)

Do what is honorable in the sight of all

“Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” (Rom. 12:17-20 ESV)

Be wise, full of mercy and good fruits

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:17 ESV)

“For the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” (James 1:20 ESV)

Love your enemies

“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.” (Luke 6:32-33 ESV)

“But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.” (Luke 6:35 ESV)

A promise given a promise kept!

“As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet.” (2 Kings 13:21 NASB)

A dead body jumps back to life!

Imagine being a pallbearer at the funeral of a friend and you are carrying his dead body to the grave. Suddenly, you see a group of notorious gang members headed your way and imminent danger. So, to get away as quickly as possible, you toss the body into an open grave nearby. But then, something astounding happens! As soon as the body touches the bones of the person already in that grave, your dead friend miraculously comes back to life! That’s exactly what happened in the passage above!

What caused this miraculous event to happen, and why?

There is a reason for everything written in the Bible, even for this incident.  II Kings chapter 2 tells how Elijah passed his prophetic mantle on to the young prophet Elisha. “When they came to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken away.” And Elisha replied, “Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit and become your successor.” “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah replied. “If you see me when I am taken from you, then you will get your request. But if not, then you won’t.” As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire appeared, drawn by horses of fire. It drove between the two men, separating them, and Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha saw it and cried out, “My father! My father! I see the chariots and charioteers of Israel!” And as they disappeared from sight, Elisha tore his clothes in distress.” (2 Kings 2:8-12 NLT) This bold request of asking for a “double share of Elijah’s spirit” was granted to  Elisha. This meant that Elisha would do twice what Elijah had done during his ministry. Elijah had performed Fourteen miracles by the power of God that rested upon him. If Elisha received a double share of Elijah’s spirit, he would perform at least 28 miracles.

Elijah’s promise of a “double share” is fulfilled after Elisha’s death!

When he died, Elisha had only performed twenty-seven miracles. He was short one miracle as promised! This miracle of resurrection involving his bones made the 28th miracle performed! Thus, this miracle is an accurate fulfillment of the provision of a double portion of the spirit of Elijah resting upon Elisha and could be the reason for this amazing  story.

Free Indeed!
IMG_0385.GIF

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36 ESV)

Free: not bound, confined, or detained by force

Knowing the truth sets you free!

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32 ESV)

Free in Christ Jesus!

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” (Rom. 8:1-4 ESV)

Freedom is where the Spirit of the Lord is!

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Cor. 3:17 ESV)

Therefore…

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Gal. 5:1 ESV)

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” (1Peter 2:16 ESV)

Live by faith
IMG_0367.JPG

“And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."  (Gal. 2:20, ESV)

Because of what God has done for us through His Son, Jesus, we now are able to live a life of faith.

From faith to faith

“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” (Rom. 1:17 ESV)

Not by what we see

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Cor. 5:7 ESV)

Therefore…

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Rom. 15:13 ESV

He has risen!
IMG_0365.JPG

“And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.” (Mark 16:6 ESV)

Christ the Lord is risen today, Sons of men and angels say. Raise your joys and triumphs high; Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply. – Charles Wesley

He was buried and raised again on the third day

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.” (1 Cor. 15:3-5)

Jesus is the resurrection and the life

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)

The power that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you

“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” (Rom. 8:11)

Believe and confess that Christ was raised from the dead

Romans 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

God will raise us, too

“And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.” (1Cor. 6:14)

Quote

“The evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ is more powerful than anything else we believe. By His resurrection Jesus proved He is who He says He is. Be confident in this truth. Stand on the Holy Word of God. Don't sell the world a false bill of goods. Preach the word. Defend the faith. Live the faith." Charles Colson

Escape Hell through Jesus
IMG_0364.JPG

“And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.” (Dan. 12:2 ESV)

Everlasting life in heaven or everlasting contempt in hell?

The Bible makes it absolutely clear that there is a time coming when the dead will awake to spend eternity in one of two places, heaven or hell! Some preach that there is no hell saying that a loving God would never send people to a place like that. But, the truth is, hell is a real place to be avoided and Jesus spoke about it more times than He did about heaven. Why? Because He didn’t want people to go there! Jesus told the following story about two men, one rich and one poor, and about what happened to each of them after they died.

The Rich Man and Lazarus

“There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house— for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’” (Luke 16:19-31 ESV)

Who is going to hell

“And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Rev. 20:10 ESV)

“And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Rev. 29:15 ESV)

“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Rev. 21:8 ESV)

What God did to keep people from going to hell

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 ESV)

Saved only by Jesus

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” (John 3:36 ESV)

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12 ESV)

Such we’re some of you

“Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Cor. 6:9-12 NIV)

 Therefore…

“If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom. 10:9 NIV)

You can recognize the signs
IMG_0366.JPG

“Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28 ESV)

Times of difficulty

“But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.” (2 Tim. 3:1-5 ESV)

The beginning of birth pains

“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains.” (Mark 13:8 ESV)

Terrors and great signs from heaven

“There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.” (Luke 21:11 ESV)

Those days will be cut shirt for the sake of the elect

“For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.” (Matt. 24:21-22 ESV)

Therefore…

“Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea…” (Psalm 46:2 ESV)

“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” (Matt. 24:42 ESV)

“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matt. 24:44 ESV)

The Lord is abounding in love!
IMG_0362.JPG

“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” (Psalm 103:8 NIV)

Abounding: to be present in large numbers or in great quantity; to brim, bulge, overflow, swarm, teem.

The Lord not only has love for you, He abounds and overflows with it for you! In fact, the Bible’s most famous verse, John 3:16, proclaims that He loved you so much that He gave his only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for you on the cross, to redeem you from sin and to provide you with everlasting life! According to the Bible, laying down one’s life for another is the “greatest kind of love.”

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.” (John 15:13 NIV)

God demonstrated His abounding love

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom. 5:8 NASB)
