Faithfulness is the concept of unfailingly remaining loyal to someone or something, and putting that loyalty into consistent practice regardless of extenuating circumstances.

Today’s Promise to Memorize* 

“The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.” (Psalm 145:9)

What is compassion?

• The dictionary defines compassion as a deep awareness of the suffering of another accompanied by the wish to relieve it.  Compassion literally means “to suffer together.” It is the feeling that arises when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering. Compassion is sometimes used interchangeably with sympathy. Compassion embodies a tangible expression of love for those who are suffering.

• The Bible defines compassion by showing us what compassion looks like, and what is involved with being compassionate, such as the the parable of the good samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and the following verses do. 

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”  (Prov. 31:8-9, NIV)

“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:18, NIV)

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matt. 9:36 ESV)
