Life and healing

“My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their[b] flesh.” (Prov. 4:20-22 ESV)

 The springs of life flow from your heart 

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you.” (Prov. 4:23-24 ESV)

 Ponder the path of your feet

“Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder[c] the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.” (Prov. 4:25-27 ESV)

Wisdom and insight will exalt you

“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.” (Prov. 4:7-9 ESV)

Get wisdom by asking God for it

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5 ESV)

The years of your life may be many

“Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many.  I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness.” (Prov. 4:10-11 ESV)

 Keep hold of instruction and you won’t stumble

When you walk, your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble. Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is your life.” (Prov. 4:12-13 ESV) 

God’s kind of wisdom defined

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:17 ESV)

 Turn away from evil ways

“Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on. For they cannot sleep unless they have done wrong; they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble. For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. (Prov. 4:14-17 ESV)

Because the days are evil, be careful how you walk

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Eph. 5:15-17 ESV)

 The righteous path shines brightly 

“But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble. (Prov. 4:18-19 ESV)

A father’s wise instruction

“Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight, for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching.” (Prov. 4:1-2 ESV)

 The command that comes with a promise 

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Fathers,[b] do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Eph. 6:1-4 NIV)

Let your heart hold fast his words

“When I was a son with my father, tender, the only one in the sight of my mother, he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live.” (Prov. 4:3-4 ESV)

 Get wisdom and insight from his words

“Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.” (Prov. 4:5-6 ESV)

Be a good neighbor

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.  Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”— when you already have it with you.” (Prov. 3:27-28 NIV)

The entire law is fulfilled in one command

“For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Gal  5:14 NIV)

Loving your neighbor is the fulfillment of the law 

​The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.“ (Rom. 13:9-10 NIV)

Build your neighbors up

​”​Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.“ (Rom 12:2 NIV)

Be kind to your neighbor

“Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you. Do not accuse anyone for no reason— when they have done you no harm.” (Prov. 3:29-30 NIV)

The Lord made the heavens and earth by wisdom

“By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; by his knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.” (Prov. 3:19-20 NIV)

 Wisdom and understanding will be life to you

“My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.” (Prov. 3:21-23 NIV)

 With the Lord by your side, you will not be afraid

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.” (Prov. 3:24-26 NIV)

For overflowing blessings, honor the Lord with your wealth

God disciplines those he loves

You are blessed when you find wisdom and gain understanding 

“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.” (Prov. 3:13-15 NIV)

 Hold her fast and be blessed

“Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.” (Prov. 3:16-18 NIV)

For long life, peace and prosperity, keep God’s commands in your heart

“My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.” (Prov. 3:1-2 NIV)

Find favor and high esteem 

“Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.” (Prov. 3:3-4 NKJV)

God shall direct your paths

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct[a] your paths.” (Prov 3:5-6 NKJV)

 This will bring health to your body 

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” (Prov. 3:7-8 NIV)

Wisdom will save you from wicked ways

“Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways, who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.” (Prov. 2:12-15 NKJV)

 Wisdom will save you from the paths of death

 You will keep to righteous paths

The wicked and the unfaithful will be cut off

“but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be torn from it.” (Prov. 2:22 NKJV)

How to find the knowledge of God

“My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.” (Prov. 2:1-5 NKJV)

The Lord gives wisdom, knowledge and understanding 

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Prov. 2:6 NKJV)

Success is in store for the upright 

“He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.” (Prov. 2:7-8 NKJV)

Understanding will guard you 

“Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.” (Prov. 2:9-11 NKJV)
