Live Holy Lives

“God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives.”
(1 Thess. 4:7 NLT)

The same reference point

A skilled piano tuner once explained that when multiple pianos are tuned to the same standard pitch, something remarkable happens—they naturally harmonize with one another. They don’t need to be tuned to each other; they simply align to the same reference point. The result is unity, clarity, and beautiful sound.

In much the same way

God calls His people to be “holy.” At its core, holy means to be set apart. It is a reflection of God’s own nature—pure, perfect, and worthy of reverence. While holiness belongs fully to God, He invites us to share in it by setting our lives apart for Him.

This calling is not just about avoiding sin; it’s about becoming more like Christ. Scripture says, “Be holy in all you do” (1 Peter 1:15). That means our thoughts, actions, choices, and even our attitudes are to reflect His character. Holiness is lived out daily—in how we speak, how we treat others, and how we honor God with our bodies and lives.

Holiness also pleases God

Paul reminds us that it is God’s will for us to be sanctified—to grow in purity and self-control, living in a way that is honorable before Him (1 Thess. 4:1–4). This isn’t about perfection overnight, but about continual surrender and growth.

When we align our lives with God—our “standard pitch”—everything begins to come into proper harmony. Our relationship with Him deepens, and our relationships with others are strengthened as a result.

Therefore

Set your life apart for God. Turn away from anything that contaminates your heart, and pursue a life that reflects His holiness. As you fix your eyes on Him and align your life with His truth, you will grow in purity, purpose, and unity with others who are doing the same.

“Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” (2 Cor. 7:1 NIV)
