When You Need to Be Shielded from Evil

“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ‘Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.’” (Genesis 15:1 ESV)

Shield: Something or someone that provides protection against danger or harm.

The Lord Is Your Shield

In Bible times, a shield was one of a soldier’s most important pieces of armor. It protected him from arrows, spears, and sword attacks. God used this familiar picture to assure Abram that He Himself would be his shield. The same promise belongs to every believer today. While God does not promise a life free from trouble, He does promise His presence, protection, and strength through every trial. Our greatest security is found not in our circumstances but in the Lord Himself.

The Lord Is Your Strength

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” (Psalm 28:7 ESV)

The Lord Surrounds You

“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” (Psalm 3:3 ESV)

Therefore

Take refuge in God and trust His promises. He is your protector, your strength, and your defense against the attacks of the enemy. Walk closely with Him, rest in His care, and remember that no one is safer than the person who is sheltered by the Lord.

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11)

“Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” (Prov. 30:5)
