When to Work with Excellence and Skill

“Let every skillful man among you come, and make all that the LORD has commanded.” (Exo. 35:10 ESV)

Always give God your best

The answer to the question, “When should you work with excellence and skill?” is simple: Always. Whether your task seems great or small, every job is an opportunity to honor God. Excellence isn’t about impressing people or pursuing perfection; it’s about faithfully offering God your very best. When we develop our abilities, work diligently, and maintain a humble spirit, we become effective representatives of Christ in the places He has called us to serve.

Excel in every area of life

“But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also.” (2 Cor. 8:7 ESV)

Excellence often opens doors

God frequently uses faithful, skilled people in places of influence. Joseph, Daniel, Bezalel, and many others were entrusted with greater responsibility because they demonstrated wisdom, integrity, and excellence. While our goal is never personal recognition, faithful work often results in greater opportunities to serve God and others.

“Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.” (Prov. 22:29 ESV)

“Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other presidents and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.” (Dan. 6:3 ESV) 

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9 ESV)

Therefore

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” (Col. 3:23 ESV)

“Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity…” (Titus 2:7 ESV)
