Prophet

“Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” (Mark 6:4 NIV)

Names of God

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Prophet.

Jesus – Prophet

The title “prophet” is used many times in the Gospels when other people refer to Jesus (Matthew 21:11; Luke 7:16; John 4:19). Jesus also alluded to Himself as a prophet in Mark 6:4.

Jesus spoke as the Father taught Him

“So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.” (John 8:28).

“For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.” (John 17:8).

Therefore

Jesus clearly fulfilled the role of a prophet, as He was a spokesman for God. He is the ultimate prophet in that He is the very Word of God Himself.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1 NIV)
