The Confession of Our Hope

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” (Heb. 10:23 ESV)

Hope in Christ is not fragile or uncertain

It is anchored in the faithfulness of God. The world often treats hope like a wish—something we want to happen but aren’t sure will. But biblical hope is different. It is a confident expectation based on the promises of God.

Think of an anchor on a ship

When storms come, the waves may rise and the wind may howl, but the anchor holds firm beneath the surface. The ship may move, but it does not drift away. In the same way, when our hope is fixed on God, we may face trials, delays, or uncertainty—but we will not be carried off course.

“That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God…” (1 Tim. 4:10 NIV)

Our hope is alive because it is rooted in a living Savior

“…he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3 ESV)

God strengthens our hope through His Word

The Scriptures remind us of His faithfulness, His character, and His promises:

“…through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” (Rom. 15:4 ESV)

And His plans for us are not uncertain or harmful, but filled with purpose:

“For I know the plans I have for you… to give you a future and a hope.” (Jer. 29:11 ESV)

Because of His grace, we are not only saved—we are heirs with a guaranteed future:

“…that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:7 ESV)

John C. Broger said that biblical hope is “a confident expectation in God’s fulfillment of His promises.” That kind of hope doesn’t waver, because it doesn’t depend on circumstances—it depends on God.

Therefore

Hold fast to your hope. Don’t let go when life gets hard. Rejoice in it, stand firm in it, and keep your eyes on the One who is faithful to fulfill every promise He has made.

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” (Rom. 12:12 ESV)

“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” (Lam. 3:24 ESV)

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing…” (Rom. 15:13 ESV)
