Grow Up in All Aspects of Christ
“…we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ…” (Eph. 4:15)
A young man once joined a gym
He was full of excitement and determination. For the first few weeks, he showed up regularly, learned the basics, and started to see small changes. But over time, he became comfortable. Instead of increasing the weight or improving his routine, he kept doing the same easy exercises. Months later, he realized something frustrating—he hadn’t grown any stronger. His body had adapted, but without challenge or discipline, growth had stopped.
Spiritual growth works much the same way
Growth requires intention, consistency, and a willingness to move beyond the basics.
The Bible warns us about becoming spiritually dull or stagnant:
“About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing…” (Heb. 5:11-14 ESV)
When we stop growing, we don’t stay neutral—we drift
We lose sharpness, discernment, and strength. What once challenged us becomes routine, and what once stirred our hearts becomes familiar and easy to ignore.
But God never intended for us to stay at the starting line.
We are called to grow in both grace and knowledge
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…” (2 Peter 3:18 ESV)
Growth means going deeper—learning more of God’s Word, applying it daily, and allowing it to shape our decisions, attitudes, and actions. It means moving beyond spiritual “milk” and developing maturity through consistent practice and obedience.
“Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity…” (Heb. 6:1-2 ESV)
Spiritual maturity doesn’t happen by accident
It happens when we pursue God intentionally—when we desire Him, seek Him, and respond to Him.
Therefore
Refuse to become spiritually complacent. Keep pressing forward. Grow in your walk with Christ daily—through His Word, through prayer, and through obedience. Trust that God is actively working in you, shaping you into the image of His Son, and commit to walking in a way that reflects that growth.
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Phil. 1:6 ESV)
“So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” (Col. 1:10 ESV)
“Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people. He waits to be wanted.” — A. W. Tozer
