When you need victory

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:4-5 ESV)

Victory in the Christian life is not achieved by human strength alone

It comes through faith in Jesus Christ. The world constantly pulls us toward fear, temptation, discouragement, and defeat, but those who belong to Christ have already been given the ultimate victory. Every day is an opportunity to walk in that victory by trusting God, exercising self-control, and keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. Victory isn’t the absence of battles—it is overcoming through the power of Christ.

God gives us the victory

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor. 15:57 ESV)

Victory requires self-control

“Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.” (1 Cor. 9:25 ESV)

Therefore

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Heb. 12:1-2 ESV)

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13 ESV)

Quote

“Nothing paralyzes our lives like the attitude that things can never change. We need to remind ourselves that God can change things. Outlook determines outcome. If we see only the problems, we will be defeated; but if we see the possibilities in the problems, we can have victory.” - Warren Wiersbe
