“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Rom. 8:26 ESV)

The Spirit intercedes for you 

Sometimes, when we are weak for one reason or another, we may not know how we should pray, or even what to pray for, for that matter. But that’s okay, because God has you covered! There are 3 verses, Romans 8:26 (above) and Romans 8:27-28 (below), which provides for this situation. The passage above tells us that the Spirit helps and intercedes for us during these times. Then the following verse (v 27) tells us that he searches our hearts in accordance to God’s will, and (vs 28) tells us that He works it all out for our good according to His purpose.   

The Spirit searches your heart in accordance to God’s will

“And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” (Rom. 8:27 NIV) 

God works all things for your good 

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Rom. 8:28 NIV)

Therefore…

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Phil. 4:6 ESV)

God formed you

A different kind of “believe”

In the above passage we read the words of Jesus saying to “believe also in me.” This kind of “believe” is very different than what we usually understand the word to mean. It’s not like believing that something exists, such as believing that the president of the United States exists, or that God exists, because the Bible says that even devils believe that and aren’t saved (James 2:19). The kind of “believe” Jesus is talking about includes faith from the heart in Jesus and confession of the mouth. 

Believing and confessing 

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Rom. 10:9-10 ESV)

Whoever believes in Jesus will be saved 

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God..” (John 3:16-18 ESV)

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12 ESV)

Therefore…

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12 ESV)

“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16:15-16 ESV)

Be careful what you say!

Say only uplifting things 

Say uplifting and encouraging things to others to build them up in faith

The devil lies and deceives people

Since the very beginning, people have listened to lies directed at them from the devil. He spoke to Eve in the garden (Gen. 3:1) and influenced her to question God’s Word and to do what God had commanded not to do; she ate the forbidden fruit and then gave some to her husband, Adam, to eat. This resulted in sin, separation from God and to fear. 

Something dramatically changed after sin interred the world

 “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” (Gen. 3:2-11)

We aren’t unaware of the devil

“ … For we are not unaware of his schemes.” (2 Cor. 2:11 NIV)

Submit yourself to God and resist the devil

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7 NIV)

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. It’s not about what you do

Typically, when people ask about knowing God’s purpose for their lives, it’s usually about them wanting to know what occupation they should be pursuing. But, God’s purpose isn’t about what you do, it’s about what you do ‘for and with’ whatever occupation you choose to do. God’s purpose for each one of us is to purposefully include Him in all that we do. It’s to work at whatever job we do as though we are working for Christ Himself and not for men. In other words, if you are a carpenter, you should be a carpenter with and for Jesus. If you are a home-maker, student, teacher, craftsman, lawyer, physician, ditch digger, or anything else, for that matter, you do it with and for Jesus. You work at it heartily as a representative of Jesus and you do it in such a way that it honors God and brings glory to Him. Then, you will be fulfilling God’s purpose in your life, no matter what your job may be. 

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor. 10:31 ESV)

Work heartily, as for the Lord

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…” (Col. 3:23 ESV)

• Water from a rock

“He led you through the vast and terrifying wilderness with its venomous snakes and scorpions, a thirsty and waterless land. He brought you water from the rock of flint.” (Deut. 8:15)

• Streams from every high mountain 

“And from every high mountain and every raised hill, streams of water will flow in the day of great slaughter, when the towers fall.” (Isa. 30:25)

Therefore…

“The Lord will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand (Deut. 28:12).

Shield: Something or someone which provides protection against a particular danger or risk. 

The Lord is your shield and strength
