Today’s Promise to Memorize* 

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom. 10:9)

You must believe in your heart

I have “believed” in Jesus all my life. That is, I believed that there was once a man named Jesus, who was born in a place called Bethlehem with parents called Joseph and Mary. In other words, I believed in the basic Christmas story. But I didn’t have a clue why that was important or what it meant personally. I didn’t understand that simply believing that Jesus existed isn’t enough to be saved. The demons believe that and tremble, yet they aren’t saved (James 2:19). The above passage says you must “believe in your heart” (that’s personally and deeply) two things: 1) that Jesus is Lord, and 2) that God raised Him from the dead. And there is listed one more step: You must declare it with your mouth! The next verse explains why that’s important. 

“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Rom. 10:10 NIV)

How it happened to me

One day I found a little gospel booklet that explained my sin nature and told how Jesus had died on the cross and shed His blood to pay for my sins. It told how He had risen from the dead, is alive today, and that He is the only way to be saved from hell. The booklet included a little prayer to receive Christ: “O God, I am  a sinner. I’m sorry for my sins. I’m willing to turn from my sins. I receive Christ as Savior. I confess Him as Lord. From this moment on I want to follow Him and serve Him in the fellowship of His church. In Christ’s Name, Amen.” I prayed that prayer and immediately I was saved!I then began telling everyone about Jesus!

Today’s Promise to Memorize* 

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17)

 Why God did this wonderful thing

Most people have heard John 3:16 (yesterday’s promise and memory verse), but not the very next verse, John 3:17, which explains clearly why God sent His Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." (John 1:12 KJV)

It changed my life!

I received Jesus Christ into my life 50-plus years ago while driving down a busy road! I had just read a little gospel booklet that I had found in a glove compartment. It explained to me how to pray a simple prayer of faith to ask Jesus for forgiveness and to be my Savior.

I prayed, “Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for me!  I believe in you and need you! Please forgive me of my sins and come into my life. I invite you to be my Savior! In Jesus Name, Amen!”

That simple prayer changed my life dramatically forever that day!

Good morning! I’m starting a new podcast that will be posted in multiple platforms each week during drive time. Doing a podcast is a very new experience for me, and I have to confess, that it’s bit scary for me, too. This opportunity was presented to me by my good friend and business colleague, DJ Harrington, (he’s the voice you hear at the beginning and ending of the recording), and he presented this to me as another way to promote God’s promises to a much larger audience. He said this may be heard by a million people! Wow! This first one has a few little clicks and rustle sounds here and there, (my apologies) because I’m still learning how to do this and discovering that I shouldn’t be touching the microphone while recording, for instance. I hope to improve and find my rhythm as I move forward. Please keep me in your prayers as I work to create and post them. And please pray that they will be a blessing to those who hear them as they drive to and from work.

Today’s Promise to Memorize* 

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

 Something you must do

 As do many of the promises throughout the Bible, there are requirements listed along with the promises (something you must do) in order to receive what is promised. For instance, the above passage promises two things, 1) that our faithful and just God will forgive us our sins, and 2), that He will purify us from all unrighteousness. The first part of the verse begins with the little word “if”. “If” you do what He says to do (confess your sins), then you will receive what is promised. Whenever you find a promise in the Bible, be sure to look closely to see if there is something you need to do. Read what is written before it and after it for context, commands, or instructions. Especially look for that small word “if”.

Today’s Promise to Memorize* 

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4) 

Taking delight in the Lord

When I first read this promise as a young Christian, I thought it meant that I’d get the desires of my heart, no matter what they were, by simply “taking delight in the Lord.” And as I look back now, what I desired back then wasn’t always the best for me even though I may have thought so at the time. What I finally learned over time, is that something miraculous actually happens to you in the process of delighting yourself in the Lord — God transforms the desires of your heart to become His desires, so that you desire what He desires, which is always the very best for you! You end up truly receiving “the desires of your heart”. In other words, you always end up getting the desires of your heart with the very best results possible when you delight yourself in the Lord.
