Converting the Soul and Making Wise the Simple

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” (Psalm 19:7)

I once heard about a man who could barely read and never had much formal education. When he became a Christian, he slowly worked his way through the Bible with the help of a friend. Over time, those who knew him said he spoke with more depth and understanding than many who had advanced degrees. It wasn’t his schooling that gave him wisdom—it was God’s Word transforming his heart and mind.

God’s Word is more than instruction—it is transformation

The Scriptures take a wandering heart and turn it back toward God, renewing the soul and shaping it into something alive and fruitful. Even the simple gain wisdom when they humble themselves before His Word.

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”(Prov 2:6)

The people of Israel were told:

“Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding in the sight of the peoples, who will hear of all these statutes and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’” (Deut. 4:6)

When God gave His people His law at Mount Sinai, it was described this way:

“You came down on Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven. You gave them just ordinances, true laws, and good statutes and commandments.” (Neh. 9:13)

Why is this true? Because His way is flawless:

“As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.” (Psalm 18:30)

Therefore

If you want a renewed soul and a wise mind, turn often to the Word of God. His truth not only instructs—it transforms.
