A hypocrite is a liar

“If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.” (1 John 4:20 ESV)

The truth is not in the hypocrite

“Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1 John 2:4 ESV)

The hypocrite’s heart is far from God

“You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” (Matt. 15:7-9 ESV)

Hypocrites won’t escape God’s judgement

“Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?”

Covered things will be revealed

“Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.” (Luke 12:2 ESV)

The answer to hypocrisy

“You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.” (Matt. 7:5 ESV)

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” (1 Peter 2:16 ESV)

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
IMG_6128.JPG

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6 ESV)

Jesus described Himself using metaphorical statements, such as this one, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

In this passage Jesus said He was three things

1. The way –  “No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6b ESV) “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Tim. 2:5 ESV)

2. The truth – “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” (John 16:13 ESV) “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32 ESV)

3. The life – “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.” (Rom. 5:10 ESV)

Jesus said, “I am He resurrection and the life”
IMG_6126.JPG

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” (John 11:25 ESV)

Jesus described Himself using metaphorical statements, such as this one, “I am the resurrection and the life”

And He was declared to be the Son of God by His resurrection

“And was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,.” (Rom. 1:4 ESV)

We are born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3 ESV)

We may know the power of His resurrection

“That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.” (Phil. 3:10 ESV)

In your heart believe it, confess it with your mouth, and be saved

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom. 10:9 ESV)

Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd”
IMG_6124.JPG

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11 ESV)

Jesus described Himself using metaphorical statements, such as this one, “I am the good shepherd”.

Good Shepherd

In the above passage He describes Himself as not only “the shepherd” but the “good shepherd.

He knows His sheep and they know Him

“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me.” (John 10:14 ESV)

He is unique in character

  • He is the Good Shepherd of Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:1-6 NIV)
  • He is the great shepherd os sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant - “Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord.” (Hebrews 13:20 NASB)
  • He is the shepherd guardian of your soul - “Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.” (1 Peter 2:25 NLT)
  • He will appear as the Chief Shepherd with the crown of glory for you that will never fade away – “And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.” (1 Peter 5:4 NIV)

“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.” (John 10:9 ESV)

Jesus described Himself using metaphorical statements, such as this one, “I am the door of the sheep”

Jesus is the door!

Jesus said that He is “the door,” not “a door.” He is the only door by which we may enter and be saved. There is no other way.

So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.” (John 10:7 ESV)

Access to the Father is only through Jesus

“… No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 NIV)

Jesus is the only mediator between God and man

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.” (1 Tim. 2:5-6 ESV)

If anyone hears His voice and opens the door…

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Rev 3:20 NIV)

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world”

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12 ESV)

In Him is no darkness at all

“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5 ESV)

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5 ESV)

If we walk in the light…

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7 ESV)

His light has shown in our hearts

“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Cor. 4:6 ESV)

“For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.” (1 Thess. 5:5 ESV)

Proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9 ESV)
